They think it’s all overs at the annual Intercede team cricket match
At Intercede every year the 4th July is celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Whereas our North American colleagues celebrate this day with their families and friends, in the UK we have our annual Intercede Cricket Match. It is a great time to have some fun as well as competitive spirit with colleagues on the sun drenched cricket pitch in Lutterworth.
Players of all abilities participate, and the rules are suitably adapted by our longstanding umpire who manages each game to successful completion – the definition of a “wide” is aligned with the ability of the bowler. Some are wide, others not so wide ……… resulting in close scores at the end of the day.
It is great to see the friendly nature throughout the afternoon and it also gives individuals the opportunity to showcase different skills; from batting, to bowling to fielding, to management and leadership. Particularly the latter is intriguing as one can see many colleagues encouraging others, directing the game, providing instructions, offer ample motivation as well as game planning and strategy. All of these are transferrable skills in the workplace, which is often overlooked, and by working closely together the right results can be achieved.
Of course, at the end of the day there is a winning cricket team who are suitably recognised by the much coveted Intercede Cricket Trophy but far more important is the comradery, the friendly spirit, the opportunities for individuals to shine and strengthen the bonds in the workplace. At the end of the day, we are Team Intercede!
