VIRTUAL SMART CARD CREDENTIAL MANAGEMENT

MyID® provides issuance and lifecycle management of keys and certificates to virtual smart cards (VSCs), including on-device key generation for signing and authentication and key injection of archived certificates for decryption purposes such as reading secure email.

VSCs provide equivalent functionality to a physical smart card with a virtual card on a client or server environment.

Client-based VSCs protect private keys with a cryptographically enabled chip, such as a Trusted Platform Module, or a core processor and present a virtual card to the operating system in a similar fashion to a smart card, often supporting two-factor authentication by means of a PIN or biometric match.

Server-based virtual smart cards can be used to provided PKI/smart card-based access when a physical smart card is not available.
