Intercede provides law enforcement agencies with cost-effective digital identity management software

Reston, VA – Leading credential management expert Intercede today revealed how it is enabling major law enforcement agencies across the US and Europe to protect networks and mission critical data by verifying the identity of officers, citizens and machines accessing information. Using Intercede’s MyID software, agencies can issue and manage credentials that only allow trusted employees to get access to confidential and protected services, facilities, information and networks.

MyID meets the highest government standards, such as the US government’s Personal Identity Verification (PIV) standard, which makes it easy for officers to use their credentials when interacting with state and central government. It also enables police forces and agencies to meet the Federal Government mandate that states that a minimum of two-factor authentication must be used to gain access to secure systems.

By extending access to mobile devices MyID provides greater flexibility for users, writing their credentials onto hardware elements within a device. This allows people to perform the same activities using a mobile device that they could previously only do in the office using their smart card or token.

One example of the benefits of mobility includes an improved ability to restrict access to scenes of emergency to only the appropriate first responders by providing a secure system to identify the correct individuals. Credentials can also be assigned to citizens, for example, to provide access to benefits.

Mobile credentials can be deployed at a lower cost than physical tokens or smart cards; one European police force has saved up to 70% of the cost of USB tokens by implementing MyID.
