Identity Verification
Why it matters

Trust between officers and the public, built in seconds

The importance of identity verification cannot be overstated - and nowhere more so than in law enforcement, where trust between officers and the public is essential. Intercede, in conjunction with NEC, is transforming how that verification works.

Together we are replacing an outdated, paper-based system with a technologically advanced, user-friendly solution - reinforcing trust and security, simplifying interactions, and delivering real operational efficiency for forces.

Identity verification in action

How do we build trust between the public and officers in a digital era? The answer lies in advanced identity verification.
How it works

Three steps to a verified identity

When an officer arrives, their warrant card lives securely on their mobile device. Verification takes a moment and needs nothing more than a phone.
1

Present

The officer opens the app and displays a digital version of their warrant card, generating a unique QR code.

2

Scan

Any member of the public scans the QR code with their own mobile device, no app install required.

3

Verify

Cryptographically signed information is exchanged and validated, confirming the identity is genuine and current. An optional PIN can be cross-checked on the force's website.

The benefits

Why forces choose it

Faster on the doorstep

Officers prove who they are in seconds, so they can get on with the reason for their visit.

Trust by design

A clear, transparent method that reassures the public and builds confidence in their police force.

Less suspicion

Genuine officers are confirmed instantly, minimising apprehension and the risk of impersonation.

Cryptographically secure

Signed, verifiable credentials backed by MyID - current, tamper-evident and standards-based.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

A secure, simple mechanism for one individual to confirm another is who they claim to be - in this case, a citizen validating the identity of a police officer.

When an officer arrives, they show their identity via an app on their mobile device, displaying a digital version of their warrant card. The app generates a unique QR code that any member of the public can scan with their own phone. This triggers an exchange and validation of cryptographically signed information, confirming the presented identity is valid and current. For extra security, a PIN can also be generated and cross-checked on the police force's website.

It speeds up how quickly an officer's identity can be verified so they can get on with their visit, builds trust between citizens and officers, reassures the public with a clear and transparent method, and minimises suspicion and apprehension.
