FIPS 201 was implemented in response to a presidential directive (HSPD-12) in order to improve the security of government resources and facilities. This standard and its related Special Publications define hardware, systems and processes for the secure issuance and maintenance of high-assurance, trusted credentials.
The Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program has been successfully implemented over the entire Federal Government, with a standards-based credential being deployed. PIV cards are now being used to manage access to facilities, authentication to networks and online services and to secure communications.
MyID issues and manages FIPS-201 compliant PIV credentials to cards and derived PIV credentials to mobile devices, providing the highest levels of security for mobile working and ensuring compliance with US Federal security standards.
